Laura joined Lifemoves® as a Practicing Kinesiologist in January 2016. She recently moved to Vancouver from Sydney, Australia where she was an Accredited Exercise Physiologist. Laura has been involved in and surrounded by sport and exercise since she was three years old. She represented her region, Sydney East and State, New South Wales in multiple sports, including Athletics, Oztag (flag rugby), Cricket, Netball, and Physical Culture (Australian dancing), and has always been interested in how the body moves, works, and recovers.
During her undergraduate studies, she quickly became interested in human anatomy and realized that health care is a profession where she can always be learning, which she believes is "my kind of career!" She gravitated towards the complexities of chronic conditions that fit into neurological, metabolic, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal categories. Afterwards, Laura completed a Graduate Diploma in Exercise Rehabilitation to become an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
She has a strong background in research. Her Masters of Science research thesis, from the University of Wollongong, Australia, examined how the Australian army currently trains their soldiers and how they could improve their training model. Laura believes in the importance of evidence-based research for exercise prescription and is constantly searching for new and interesting material.
Laura enjoys helping clients increase their movement capacity, which in turn improves their quality of life. Her personal connection with Parkinson's denotes her special interest in this movement disorder, however as "most clients have multiple pathologies; every single client can be quite complex and interesting”. Laura gets the most meaning out of working with clients who are passionate and driven to learn more about their body and discover how exercise can improve overall health and well-being. Clients say that Laura builds rapport quickly and has strong observational skills, indicating that she is able to instill correct technique at all times while making each session fun and educational.
